Major Immigration Fee Increases in 2025

f you’re planning to apply for a work permit, adjust your status, or renew your TPS, now is the time to act. Starting in July 2025, immigration fees will go up significantly — and some will increase by hundreds of dollars. These changes could impact thousands of immigrant families. In this blog, we’ll break down the biggest fee hikes, when they take effect, and how you can prepare to avoid paying more.

Why Are Immigration Fees Going Up?

Beginning July 22, 2025, USCIS will implement new immigration fees under a law called H.R. 1, also known as the One Big Beautiful Bill. While the goal is to fund operational changes, many advocates warn that these increases will create a financial barrier for low-income immigrants and families trying to legalize their status.

The Most Drastic Fee Increases You Should Know

1. TPS (Temporary Protected Status)

  • Old fee: $50
  • New fee: $500
This is a 900% increase. Nationals from countries like Venezuela, El Salvador, and Honduras who rely on TPS will be directly affected.

2. Work Permit (EAD)

  • Old fee: $470 (online filing)
  • New fee: $550
What’s worse — fee waivers will no longer be available, even for low-income applicants.

3. New Visa Integrity Fee

  • Starting October 1, 2025, a new $250 fee will be required for most nonimmigrant visas, including B‑1/B‑2 (tourist/business), F (student), J (exchange visitor), and H (temporary worker) visas.

4. $100,000 Fee for H‑1B Visa Petitions

  • A presidential proclamation signed in September 2025 sets a $100,000 fee for new H‑1B visa petitions — the biggest jump in U.S. immigration history.
While this change is still under legal review, if enforced, it would drastically impact both applicants and sponsoring employers.

When Do the New Fees Take Effect?

  • July 22, 2025: USCIS will begin accepting applications under the new fee structure.
  • August 21, 2025: Any application mailed with the old fee will be rejected.
  • October 1, 2025: The $250 Visa Integrity Fee will apply at U.S. embassies and consulates abroad.
