TPS for Venezuelans: April 2025 Update

What’s New with TPS for Venezuelans?

In April 2025, there have been important updates that affect thousands of Venezuelans currently living in the United States under Temporary Protected Status (TPS). If you or a loved one is from Venezuela, this information could impact your right to stay and work legally in the U.S.

Here’s what you need to know:

TPS Extended Through 2026

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has officially extended TPS for Venezuela until October 2, 2026. This extension offers relief and stability to hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan nationals and allows them to continue living and working in the U.S. without fear of deportation.

Automatic Renewal of Work Permits

Along with the TPS extension, eligible Venezuelans will benefit from an automatic renewal of their Employment Authorization Documents (EADs). This means that if you already have TPS, you can continue to work legally while your renewal application is processed.

Legal Challenges Against TPS Termination

Efforts to end TPS for Venezuelans have been blocked—for now. A federal judge recently issued an injunction to stop the termination of TPS, arguing that such an abrupt change could violate constitutional rights. These legal battles are ongoing, but for the moment, TPS holders are protected.

What About Humanitarian Parole?

The government has also revoked legal status for some Venezuelans who entered the U.S. using humanitarian parole under the CBP One app. This is separate from TPS but could affect many families. If you’re unsure about your status, now is the time to seek legal guidance.
